What Vincent Van Gogh experience teaches us

I was brought to tears during this part of the Vincent Van Gogh experience as the Almond Blossom came to life. Let me try to explain why, and convey the significance that this painting has had in my life.

I have a replica of Almond Blossom hanging in my lounge. It’s been on the wall for 23 years. If was a gift for my husband Chris, painted by his nephew.

I never knew what the painting meant,
that it represented new beginnings.
I never understood its meaning until after Chris died.

During years of chaos and trauma,
I only saw despair
I only felt helplessness,
fear and loneliness.
I never thought I’d ever smile again or feel any joy.

Winter lasted forever.

As you reflect on your week,
Recognise the little wins.
The little moments of progress, which may be
Getting out of bed
Feeding yourself
Doing the school run
And one day, smiling in the mirror, even if it’s forced.

One step at a time
Keep moving forward.

Winter always ends
And spring brings with it
New beginnings.

With compassion,
Kim 🌼
