31 thoughtful prompts to help you prioritise your self-care

Anyone who has endured trauma, guilt, or shame often faces significant challenges in prioritising their own self-care. Several psychological, emotional, and behavioural factors contribute to this difficulty. A nervous system that is on high alert, a diminished sense of self-worth, avoidance coping strategies, fear, lack of belief in our abilities and lack of social support all make self-care difficult for anyone who has been affected by a loved one’s battle with alcoholism or addiction.

We also tend to be the ones responsible for holding the family together.  Juggling work, relationships, and daily responsibilities can leave little room for personal well-being. However, carving out time for self-care is crucial for maintaining balance and overall happiness.

In this article, we’ve compiled a diverse set of 31 prompts designed to serve as gentle reminders, encouraging you to take time for you. These prompts are not just suggestions; they are sparks that can ignite a positive change in your routine, nudging you towards a healthier lifestyle, based on self-care. Let these prompts be your guide on the journey to putting yourself first and embracing the art of self-care.
