A Parade of Self

A Parade of Self celebrates community, diversity, and the power of the written and spoken word. Through a series of workshops launched on International Women’s Day, we invite the Blossome community to explore how words can signify strength, self-assurance, and empowerment. We aim to encourage women to embrace self-celebration and self-love, challenging societal expectations through self-respect, self-validation, and self-worth.

This will be an afternoon of Empowerment. Join us in a day the gives you a variety of creative ways to explore your Self. Lunch will be provided.

Part One: Reclaiming Identity Through Words (1hr 45min)

Kickstart the journey with a powerful creative writing session. We’ll explore stereotypes—those we’ve faced, witnessed, or want to break free from. We will guide you through discussions and exercises, where we will use words as a tool for empowerment, we’ll challenge stigmas and reclaim our voices.

Part Two:  Transforming Words into Wearable Art (1hr 15min)

Bring your writing to life to create empowerment fabrics! Continuing our journey from workshop 1, we will transform our voice into wearable art using fabric dye, textile pens, and creative mark-making techniques. This hands-on session lets you experiment with color and texture to turn personal stories into bold visual statements.

Part Three: Building the Float of Self (1hr 30min)

Now, it’s time to construct our parade’s centerpiece! We’ll design and assemble a striking float using recycled materials gathered from building sites, arts organisations, and personal collections—keeping sustainability at the heart of our work. While trained facilitators handle power tools, everyone will have the chance to contribute to the vision, shaping a float that embodies self-expression and collective creativity.
