Self-Compassion Cafe

A weekly drop-in cafe that gives you the opportunity to learn to treat yourself with loving kindness, just like you would treat a good friend. Each week you can learn a self-compassion practice, enjoy a tasty treat and meet others looking to improve their self-compassion too.

There’s no need to pre-book. Simply drop in and enjoy. Gain emotional support in the company of other lovely people, and learn how to turn compassion inward and to care for yourself. Over a cuppa and cake, you will learn a new self-compassion practice that you can use anytime anywhere, to support your own wellbeing.

The Compassion Cafe will offers safe warm space during the dark cold winter months when many who are struggling tend to hibernate. Instead of being at home alone, enjoy a treat and togetherness in the community, building courage, resilience, self-love and social connections as you learn self-care and self-compassion.

Weekly practices include:

  • Supportive Touch Hand gestures
  • Self-compassion break
  • Mindfulness
  • Compassionate voice
  • Soften-Soothe- Allow
  • Self-compassion Stone
  • Treating yourself as you would a best friend
  • Compassion With Equanimity Practice for Caregivers

FAQs

Self-compassion is simply the process of turning compassion inward.  We are kind and understanding rather than harshly self-critical when we fail, make mistakes or feel inadequate.  We give ourselves support and encouragement rather than being cold and judgmental when challenges and difficulty arise in our lives. Research indicates that self-compassion is one of the most powerful sources of coping and resilience we have available to us, radically improving our mental and physical wellbeing. It motivates us to make changes and reach our goals not because we’re inadequate, but because we care and want to be happy.  Source: Dr Kristin Neff

The Compassion Cafe sessions take place at two different times of day in two locations. Evening sessions at Two Shades Cafe in Colchester, Essex. Daytime sessions at Common Ground Cafe at the Minories. Colchester, Essex.

7 pm or 10 am

Each session is designed to last 2 hours, however you can arrive and leave when it suits you. We will learn the self-compassion practice 30 minutes after the start time.

The Compassion cafe sessions are suited to everyone. We all could benefit from learning to be a bit kinder and more supportive towards ourselves. Anyone who is wanting to improve their self-care and how they feel about themselves will benefit greatly.

Two Shades is offering their entire drinks and dessert menu. Blossome will offer some initial drinks and snacks at no charge. You are welcome to top yourself p with any extras that you fancy. The India Masala Chai and bubble waffles are delicious!
