Mindful Self-compassion Drop-in

A wonderful opportunity to learn and practice mindful self-compassion in a monthly live online gathering. The session offers an introduction to the practice of self-compassion, helping you to learn how to give yourself the same support and kindness that you give to a good friend. This gathering is for anyone who has been affected by a loved one’s alcohol or substance misuse.  Learn mindful self-compassion in a safe supportive space, by a qualified Mindful Self-compassion teacher.

Self-compassion changes the way you deal with the distress and the chaos in your life.  In these sessions, you will gain a light introduction to self-compassion through a guided meditation with the teacher’s reflections and group sharing. Held in a safe and inclusive space, join us as you meditate in the comfort of your own home.  You’ll gain encouragement and support to helpyou live life more mindfully.

These sessions are designed to give you an idea of what it would be like to take the Cultivating Self-compassion programme that goes into greater depth, helping yo to learn to be kinder to yourself, more loving, and not be so harsh on yourself, or blame yourself for not being able to control your loved ones drinking or using drugs. By learning self-compassion you can gain the ability to self-regulate your emotions. You can learn to actively cultivate the positive emotional states that are so important for your own health, wellbeing and quality of life. Mark your calendar and join us.

Each month, our teacher will lead a light-touch self-compassion practice, followed by a live question and answer period. Participants can ask questions related to self-compassion – including how to use self-compassion in difficult circumstances when struggling to cope with your loved one’s ilness.

Self-compassion provides a shift in your thinking about your life and how you manage the challenges of loving someone suffering from alcohol or substance misuse.  It can be developed through a set of  learnable skills that you practice in your daily, helping you to be kinder to yourself , developing a compassionate coach and quietening your inner harsh critic, in the midst of life’s adversities. Self-compassion does not require extra time out of your schedule.

Join us at the gathering. Come as you are and gain compassion  support. Learn self-compassion practices and how to prioritise your own self care.

Self-compassion is simply the process of turning compassion inward.  When we show self-compassion, we are kind and understanding rather than harshly self-critical when we fail, make mistakes or feel inadequate.  We give ourselves support and encouragement rather than being cold and judgmental when challenges and difficulty arise in our lives. Research indicates that self-compassion is one of the most powerful sources of coping and resilience we have available to us, radically improving our mental and physical wellbeing. It motivates us to make changes and reach our goals not because we’re inadequate, but because we care and want to be happy.  Source: Dr Kristin Neff

Dr Maya Campbell is a research scientist, psychologist, mindfulness and self-compassion  teacher and supervisor living and working in Colchester, UK. She has developed self-compassion training which includes the core elements of the hugely successful The Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) program, developed by Christopher K. Germer, PhD, leader in the integration of mindfulness and Kristin Neff, PhD, pioneering researcher in the field of self-compassion. The new elements designed specifically for the Blossome community take into account the increased burden that families of those suffering from addiction experience and will actively address possible trauma related issues.

Maya brings her professional training and expertise to her teachings as well as the lived experience of having gone through major trauma, addiction and illnesses and has flourished despite currently living with the life-threatening disease of heart failure. Maya brings kindness and compassion to her teaching and is especially interested in the teaching of self-compassion to people. The ability to bring kindness and care to the self is profoundly healing, both mentally and physically and underpins a lot of the gains individuals experience through undertaking a mindfulness course.
