Resourcing Me with Mindful Self-compassion

Weekly Self-Compassion Sessions in Person at The Tree Room every Thursday at 11am.  A gentle space to pause, breathe, and reconnect.

These weekly one-hour sessions offer an opportunity to explore self-compassion in a way that feels accessible, supportive, and grounded in real life. You don’t need any previous experience. You don’t need to share anything you don’t want to. You can simply come as you are.

These sessions take place in The Tree Room, a calm, welcoming space that has become an important part of the experience itself. Many people find that simply being in the room helps them settle. There’s no clinical feel. No pressure. Just a quiet, supportive environment where you can begin to soften and reconnect.

Not everyone wants or is ready for an 8-week programme. These sessions offer a more flexible way to engage:

  • Come when you can
  • Try it out without committing to a course
  • Build your practice gradually over time
  • They also provide a space for those who have completed a programme to stay connected and continue practicing.

What to Expect

Each session includes a blend of:

  • Guided self-compassion and mindfulness practices
  • Gentle reflection
  • Opportunities for connection (always optional)
  • Space to slow down and be with yourself
  • Space to practice being still and cultivating inner calm

The sessions are designed to help you:

  • Feel calmer and more grounded
  • Relate to yourself with more kindness
  • Build simple, supportive practices you can take into everyday life

Who Is This For?

These sessions are open to anyone. They may be especially helpful if you:

  • Feel overwhelmed or emotionally stretched
  • Are navigating a difficult time (including addiction in the family or grief)
  • Find yourself being hard on yourself
  • Are curious about self-compassion but unsure where to start
  • Have completed a self-compassion programme and would like to continue your practice

You don’t need a reason to come.
You’re welcome just as you are.

Q & A about the Self-compassion Sessions

No, these sessions are suitable for complete beginners as well as those with experience. We will always cover the 3 components of self-compassion – the foundations for practice.

The self-compassion sessions take place at the beautiful Tree Room, in central Colchester. Located at 12 Trinity Street, Colchester, Essex CO1 1JN

When we asked past participants about how they felt about The Tree Room, they talked about how the space made them feel. They described it as:

  • Safe, somewhere they could open up without being judged
  • Calm and grounding, a place that helped them slow down
  • Separate from everyday life, a pause from everything they were holding
  • Gently connecting, being with others who “get it,” without pressure to share
  • Warm and welcoming, not clinical, not formal, but human

The session lasts for 1 hour. There is time to enjoy some refreshments and to socialise with the group afterwards in the kitchen.

The session is suited to everyone.

We are a community that supports anyone who has been bereaved or affected by someone else’s substance misuse, but these sessions are open to all.  No self-compassion experience is necessary.

No, everything is optional. We offer moments of reflecting on the practice. You can do this quietly with your journal, or share with the group , or both.  Hearing other peoples reflection often helps with our own learning. You are free to engage in whatever way feels right for you.
