The Heart of the Story: A Community Script Workshop

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be involved in the creative process of developing a play? This is your chance to immerse yourself in that journey! Join us for a unique scriptwriting workshop developing the script for our upcoming play Sun Will Rise, which aims to raise awareness of the impact of substance misuse on families. This is a topic often shrouded in shame and stigma, and our goal is to shine a light on these difficult conversations.

  • An introduction to writing a one person piece of theatre
  • What do we want it to do and how do we do it – staging, voice, action, lighting, sound etc
  •  We will read through current script
  • Feedback/ideas to the current script leading into telling our own stories
  • Write a section of our own monologue
  • Sharing and feedback

This is a rare opportunity to engage in the creative process of a play that tackles important societal issues. By sharing your experiences, you contribute to a narrative that fosters understanding and empathy within our community. Together, we can create a powerful performance that has the potential to tour around Essex and beyond. Join us in this brave space to help break the silence surrounding substance misuse and to celebrate the strength of our community. Your voice matters, and this is your chance to make it heard!

Share Your Experience: You’ll have the opportunity to share your personal stories related to the Blossome Sunrise Dip and how it impacted your self-care journey. Reflect on what it felt like to make the decision to take part, the journey to the seaside in the dark, step into the cold water, watching the sunrise, and the thoughts that encouraged or held you back.

Collaborative Environment: Whether you want to contribute ideas for the script, listen to the creative process, or speak openly about your experiences, all contributions are welcome.

Engage with the Creative Team: The scriptwriter and the actress performing the main role will be present, ensuring that your stories are authentically represented on stage.

How You Can Participate

Share Your Story: Think about your experiences—what motivated you to participate in the sunrise dip? What challenges did you face in taking time for yourself? Your insights will help shape a narrative that resonates with many. You can do this at the workshop, or forward your contributions in advance, if you are unable to make the date.

Listen and Observe: If you prefer, you can simply come to listen and see how the process unfolds. Your presence is valuable, and you

Collaborate on the Script: Your feedback will directly inform the script, and how the actor performs the role, making it as real and impactful as possible.

What to Expect:

  • Guidance and encouragement as you try something new.
  • Fun with storytelling
  • A safe, welcoming non-judgemental space where you can explore storytelling at your own pace.
  • An enjoyable, fun experience
