Introduction to Somatic Experiencing & Breathwork

July 16 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Introduction to Somatic Experiencing & Breathwork

During this introductory session you will be introduced to Somatic Experiencing, a technique that uses the body to release a ‘stuck’ emotion. You will also learn Breathwork practices that can help modulate your emotional state from a negative gloomy outlook into a more positive and healing state.

Maya will teach you about the role your body and breath plays in generating emotions and discover techniques to use when emotions get ‘stuck’ and do not follow their natural course of rising and then falling away. Intense emotions and trauma can get ‘stuck’. This is caused when the memory associated with the emotional event is not processed in the way other memories are. This creates a situation where these memories hold on to their emotional energy meaning we can relive the intense emotion if the memory is re-triggered.

This session is designed to be an introduction and therefore we will not be working with hugely difficult memories and it is totally up to you what you bring to the session. It is a taster of the techniques available to you on your healing journey.

Participants in the Blossome Summer Self-care for Grieving Hearts programme will have the opportunity to participate in this session and together share a wonderful experience.

Important Notice:

This is not a formal therapy group, but the hope is that it may have a therapeutic value in your vision for a more abundant future. The workshop is tailored to be fun and informative. Blossome is not a crisis intervention service. We signpost to other services. Information will be provided at the session to ensure all participants feel supported.

Meet Serina Leach. Yoga has been woven into Serina’s life for over 20 years, she previously worked with children, tailoring her focus to those struggling with disabilities & additional needs.  Consequently, Serina qualified as a teacher of Childrens Yoga, mindfulness and Arts Therapy whilst raising her 4 children before gravitating to more in-depth yogic studies; training in the teaching of Vinyasa, Hatha and Yin Yoga, within this process of self-discovery Serina became greatly drawn towards the studies of Trauma, Restorative and Nada Yoga (The yoga of sound). She has since qualified as a ‘Trauma Informed Yoga & Embodied Resilience Teacher (TREY)’, a Nada Yoga Therapist and is currently undertaking further training to become a ‘Trauma Informed Somatic Coach for Women’ alongside her continuing study to certify as an Emotional Release Bodywork Practitioner. Serina’s main passion is the empirical teaching of sound immersion, breathwork and somatic experiencing whilst curating spaces for those processing and navigating trauma.

Q & A

Dress comfortably.  Ideally wear loose, layered clothing as breathwork can increase the body’s temperature, where as the stillness during sound healing may make you feel slightly cooler in moments, therefor layers are a good choice of attire. Comfy socks and bed pillow would increase your comfort too but all other props will be awaiting your arrival as will I!

The breathwork session takes place at the beautiful new Stanway Lakelands Community centre in Colchester, Essex CO3 8WD

Yes, you must be enrolled in the Summer Self-care Programme to take part in this session. Please add yourself to the waiting list for the next open session.

The 90 minute session will be comprised of guided breathwork, learning to inter grate somatic practices and will concluded with a sound healing session. No previous experience is necessary. Pathways to healing are varied and some you may have traveled along many times before whilst others seems less well trodden, i would ask that you just have a willingness to experience newness without expectation and know that the light of many shine upon the paths that we walk upon as one.  After the session, we will enjoy some refreshments together.

The session is suited to anyone who has been bereaved or affected by someone else’s alcoholism or addiction. It will enable you  to explore emotions that come up in a safe supportive environment.

After the breathwork session, you will have the opportunity to reflect on the experience and share with other participants as we sit and enjoy refreshments together. ❤️
