When you lose your partner, life changes in ways words can’t capture. The world feels quieter, but heavier. The routines you once shared feel hollow. Grief can be isolating, overwhelming, and exhausting. This 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) for Widows Programme is designed to gently support you as you navigate this tender chapter of life. You’ll learn simple, practical skills to care for yourself with kindness – especially on the hardest days.

What is Mindful Self-compassion (MSC)?

MSC is all about learning to treat yourself as you would a dear friend. It is based on the groundbreaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer. Over the course of the 8-weeks, you’ll learn small, practical ways to soften the hard days and create nourishing moments of kindness, breath by breath, responding to grief and difficult moments in your life with kindness, care and understanding.

The programme will teach you the skills needed for responding in a kind and compassionate way towards yourself, when you are faced with painful situations and emotions. By learning self-compassion you will gain the self-care tools needed and the confidence to use them regularly, to enhance your innate abilities to self-regulate your emotions. You will be able to actively cultivate the positive emotional states that are so important for your own health, wellbeing and quality of life.

Self-compassion is a transformative skill that will empower you to:

  • Change the relationship that you have with yourself into a loving, supportive one
  • Overcome the self-criticism that drains your energy and well-being
  • Cultivate loving self-kindness to navigate challenges with greater ease
  • Learn to deal with negative emotions such as anxiety and depression
  • Learn how to foster positive emotions such as compassion, kindness, hope and joy
  • Recognise your shared humanity, reducing feelings of isolation
  • Develop mindfulness to respond to difficulties with clarity and wisdom
  • Embrace “fierce self-compassion” to advocate for your self-care needs
  • Build resilience and sustain hope, even in the face of setbacks or life’s adversities

How self-compassion has helped others

Mindful Self-Compassion helps me to connect with myself and to notice what is happening. It’s something that sounds so simple, but it isn’t always easy to know what is going on where grief is concerned. By being able to name my grief, to own this most intimate expression of love, allows me to think about what I need at that moment. It honestly has kept me from despair and return to love. Bee

Self-compassion has been the greatest catalyst and support with my own self-care and healing. I have grown to love the sound of my own voice and looking in the mirror too. I smile back every time. I’ve completely changed the relationship that I have with myself. I love myself, honour myself, speak with loving kindness and that is changing my life for the better. Kim

Kim Moore

I’m Kim Moore, a trained Mindful Self-Compassion teacher and founder of Blossome. I’m also a widow. I understand the invisible weight that grief carries, and how difficult it can be to be kind to yourself when your world feels broken.

Self-compassion became a vital lifeline for me,  not to “fix” my grief, but to learn how to hold it with care. This programme is my invitation to you, to gently reconnect with yourself and find small, steady moments of ease again.

After my husband passed away, I realised I could no longer hide behind his alcohol misuse and had to choose happiness for myself.  I is walking the path of recovery, finding my way back to joy through self-care and self-compassion.
