Safeguarding in the Blossome Community

Our priority is to hold space for our community members, hold them with compassion and non judgement, so they can feel safe to process their own experiences and emotions. To achieve this, we must be fully present and create a safe environment.

Safeguarding Hub

This hub serves as a central point for all safeguarding information related to our Community activities and programmes. Here, you can find essential policies, procedures, and information to help you understand what we do to safeguard our community members. You’ll also find information on why safeguarding is so important when developing self-compassion.

Policies and Procedures

We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone involved in our programme, particularly vulnerable adults. Please view our policies and procedures. If you have any questions, we are happy to help.

Ensuring Group Safety

All of our activities and programmes are conducted in a group setting. To maintain a supportive atmosphere, we adhere to the following practices which cover group size, managing emotional distress.

Reporting a Concern

If you have any safeguarding concerns, we encourage you to report them promptly. Here is how to report a concern – support and relevant contacts for reporting any issues with specific agencies and organisations.

The Compassionate Nook

The Compassionate Nook is a dedicated space in the room where the Cultivating Self-compassion programme is taking place. It is thoughtfully arranged with soft cushions and calming decor to encourage self-care. Here, participants can take a moment to breathe, reconnect with themselves, and receive support from a facilitator. We recreate this for online programmes, by having one to one support available for participants in need, in a Zoom Breakout Room.

Inner Work with Emotions

We focus on inner work that allows participants to explore their emotions without delving into past traumas. Our approach is about finding light in the present moment. We incorporate mindful self-compassion practices to help individuals remain grounded and manage emotional responses effectively. We believe that by fostering self-kindness and self-compassion, participants can learn to resource themselves, to self-regulate feelings and improve their own wellbeing.

Christopher Germer, one of the co-founders of Mindful Self-compassion, emphasises the importance of safeguarding individuals when learning self-compassion, particularly because emotional responses can be intense and overwhelming. He advocates for creating a safe environment where individuals can explore their feelings without judgment. Everything we do follows this guidance as well as guidance from our qualified Programme Leaders and Advisors.
