Self-Compassion Check-in: A Kind Reflection for Your Wellbeing
A gentle way to pause, notice how you relate to yourself, and take a compassionate step forward, with no judgment, no right or wrong.
Why Take a Self-Compassion Check-in?
Life can feel overwhelming, emotions can be overwhelming when we are affected by someone else’ s suffering from addiction. Often we speak to ourselves more harshly than we would to anyone else.
The self-compassion check-in gives you space to:
- Notice how gently or critically you respond to yourself in times of difficulty
- Recognise the ways you may already practice kindness and care
- Become aware of patterns where compassion may feel harder to access
- Create a kinder, more grounded foundation for your wellbeing

About the Tool
This assessment is based on the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS), developed by Dr. Kristin Neff and Dr. Chris Germer, co-founders of the Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) programme.
The SCS is the gold standard measure of self-compassion, used in research worldwide. It explores six key elements of how we relate to ourselves:
- Self-Kindness vs. Self-Judgment – Treating ourselves with care instead of criticism.
- Common Humanity vs. Isolation – Remembering that imperfection and struggle are part of being human.
- Mindfulness vs. Over-Identification – Holding difficult feelings in balanced awareness, without getting swept away.
By reflecting on these areas, you’ll gain insight into your current self-compassion profile. This is not about “scoring” yourself — it’s about noticing, with gentleness, where you are right now.
How the Self-Compassion Scale Works
- Takes around 10–15 minutes to complete
- Includes research-validated questions developed by Neff & Germer
- Offers immediate insights into your self-compassion patterns
- A tool for growth and awareness, not judgment
A Compassionate Approach to Growth
Self-compassion is not about becoming perfect. It’s about meeting yourself in your humanity, with kindness, balance, and care. At Blossome, we use the Self-Compassion Scale as part of our trauma-informed, supportive approach to wellbeing. It’s an invitation to begin or deepen your journey, at your own pace. We use this assessment at the beginning of all programmes. When you continue our self-care in the community, you are welcome to use this assessment annually.
Self-compassion simply means treating yourself with the same kindness and care you’d offer to a dear friend.
