Blooming Companion
Petal Programme Volunteer Role
Sometimes the most powerful support is simply not walking alone. A Blooming Companion is someone who walks gently alongside another member of the Blossome community during their Petal Programme journey.
You are not there to mentor, coach, or fix.
You are simply there to be present.
To listen.
To notice.
To remind someone, through your presence, that they are not alone.
Many people in our community have spent years carrying things silently. A Blooming Companion offers something deeply healing: steady, kind companionship while someone finds their own way forward.
The Role
As a Blooming Companion, you will be matched with a community member. Together you will check in regularly, creating a small rhythm of connection that helps them stay engaged with their self-care journey.
You are not there to solve problems or provide advice.
Your role is beautifully simple: to walk beside them.
What You’ll Do
- Have a short weekly or fortnightly check-in (usually a call or voice note).
• Offer kind listening and gentle reflection.
• Celebrate the small but meaningful steps people take.
• Encourage engagement with Blossome activities such as Resourcing Me, slow stitching, sunrise dips, and other community offerings.
• Keep simple contact dates only (no case notes or records).
• Follow the Blossome Escalation Pathway if any wellbeing or safeguarding concerns arise.
Time Commitment
Approximately 1 hour per week
If both people wish to continue after 6 months, the match may be extended by agreement.
You Might Be a Beautiful Fit If You Are…
- Warm and compassionate
• A thoughtful listener
• Comfortable with gentle boundaries
• Reliable and able to offer steady presence
• Curious about trauma-aware support
• Someone who believes that healing happens in safe connection
You do not need to be an expert.
Your humanity is the most important thing you bring.
Important Boundaries
Blooming Companions are not counsellors or therapists. This role does not involve:
• Giving clinical or therapeutic advice
• Trying to “fix” someone’s situation
• Carrying responsibility for another person’s selfcare
If a safety or wellbeing concern arises, you simply follow the Blossome Escalation Pathway so the right support can step in.
You are never expected to hold difficult situations alone.
The Support You’ll Receive
You will be well supported throughout your volunteering journey.
- Guidance from the Volunteer Coordinator
• Monthly Petal Programme Circles for connection and reflection
• A shared WhatsApp group for quick questions or support
We believe volunteers deserve the same care and compassion we offer our community.
Training
Before being matched, you’ll receive gentle introductory training in:
- Safeguarding Lite
• Trauma Awareness Basics
• Self-Compassion 101
• Companion Skills Mini-Training
These sessions are designed to help you feel confident, grounded, and supported.
Your Self-Care Matters Too
At Blossome we believe supporting others should never come at the cost of your own wellbeing. As a volunteer you are warmly encouraged to take part in our community activities and self-care sessions. Many volunteers find that walking beside someone else strengthens their own self-compassion practice too.
Accessibility & Expenses
We want volunteering to be accessible. Adjustments can be made wherever possible, and reasonable travel or refreshment expenses are covered in line with our volunteer policy.
How to Join
Your journey to becoming a Blooming Companion begins with:

A small act of companionship can change how someone experiences their journey.
If you believe that healing grows in safe connection, we would love to welcome you into the Blossome volunteer community.
